what are the big rubber hoses that go to the manifold... 200 1990

Yhis morning I checked my oil, and as usual I check the engine to see if everything is snug and fine. I see this hose (about 1" in diameter) a little disconnected or "loose" from this .25+ inch metal tubing on the manifold. It wasn't completely disconnected but just pushed away from the base of the metal nipple of the tube (i.e., it was still plugged but loose). This hose appears to lead pass that big cylinder thingy by the brake fluid resevoir and down into something. There are two hoses by that cylinder. The hose concerned is the slightly bigger one. I have not noticed anything unusual about the car. Anyone know what this hose is for? Having it come loose from the manifold will have what effect on the engine or function of the car? I clamped it tight with a hose clamp so it doesn't come loose again.
