Pertronix/Coil mod 120-130

Looks like I opened a can of worms here. I expected a "been there, done that" response as the Pertronix gets lots of mentions. Looking at the wiring dagram. it shows the connection at 54 to be hot i.e. goes directly to one side of the stubby fuse. I assume that when the ignition is switched on it completes the circuit from 54 to the base of the coil. The key then turns against the spring to fire up the starter. When released the coil is then still "live". However, if you connect the red wire from the Ignitor to 54, it will be live all the time. Therefore it needs to be spliced into the wire from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid which is only live when the ignition on. I've printed out the IPD sheet but my electrical knowledge gets a bit fuzzy when looking at the diode area of the diagram. What is the "round" juction that leads to the 2 (?) diodes. This may be self-evident if you have IPD's kit in your hand but I don't! Comparing the "spade connector" diagram just above the Distributor pic seems to have the diode the opposite way round to the wiring on the RH side. Am I getting confused, you bet! So, I think I need a simple diagram for a diode lead with the correct direction of flow and a "generous" rating for the diodes.
To complicate things, IPD seem to think that "cast iron" distributors are not suitable for this. That seems rather odd and comments on this would be interesting. I know they can be swapped over but I don't think any Amazon was fitted with an Ali body distributor. I don't think we had the B20/240 in the UK.
On with the story.........
Derek
