Seat Heaters 101 200 1991

In my '91 244, I have heated seats. Both switches for the seats work, and the orange indicator light illuminates when I flip them on.

However, the driver's seat doesn't seem to heat up as well as it should. About one out of 10 times, it actually feels warm.

(think just sitting down on the toilet, after someone else left the bathroom)

Meanwhile, the passenger's seat works well every time.

What causes this sporadic heating problem?

The seat always does generate SOME sort of heat, but the level of heat varies from BARELY to JUST RIGHT.

Is there anything I can do to rejuvinate the system?

How warm are the IPD seat heater element replacements?

And how do they feel in the seat, once installed?

Thanks for any tricks/hints/etc...
