This is nuts !! Read this one !! 700 1986

AFTER a few months of head scratching, injector cleaning, ground point checking, ignition wire changing, throttle body cleaning, spark plug changing, dist cap changing, rotor changing, you name it, I tried it. My 740 T wagon still was getting 19 MPG, was stumbling badly, surging at the stop lights and was generally running like shit. So, I said to myself, "Self, WTF is going on here ?" I pulled the air cleaner out, the one I had replaced in early summer and found literally 500+ acorns in my air box !! It was almost full to the top with acorns !! So after removing the air box and removing all of the acorns and then vacuuming out the box, wiping it out and then cleaning it with mild soap and H20, I replaced everything and I have a car that gets about 26 MPG on Hiway and runs like a brand new vehicle. Needless to say, the neighborhood population of squirrels has taken a turn towards a less prosperous growth rate. Lesson learned for me and the squirrels !!
