either no dashboard lights or no heat 900 1994

Electrical short? My gas gauge & dash board lights rarely work. The left blinker light is on if the headlights are on and the high beam light is dim when the high beams are on and bright when the high beams are off. Now by some fluke of cold weather, like 10 degrees, my dash board lights are on for the first time in years, my gas gauge is working intermitently but I've lost my heat. Not good timing. I'm thrilled to know how fast I'm going at night, now, considering it's freezing cold in the car...any thoughts?
