Shifter to auto trany linkage 1983

Problem: Automatic trany connection to floor shift lever has come disconnected.
found the linkage rod came out at the arm on the trany. The square "nut like" (not threaded) pivot is still attached to the arm.
Question: how do I attatch and secure the rod in place? There is only enough rod extending through to use like a C shaped spring clip and that seems inadequate for the job. There are no threads on the rod to use a nut. What goes on here to keep these connected. Thanks for any help.
