Overdrive wiring 140-160 1970

Another quickie wiring question.... overdrive.

This being a '70-71 140 (current car is '70, parts are '71). Teh overdrive switch is the normal down for on, up for off...rather than the momentary switches of teh early 1800s.

Question being...is the relay necessary? Or can I just go from the fuse box to the switch, then to the 4th gear sensor, then to the OD solenoid? With the light after the switch of course...

My '72 164e is also an auto -> 4 speed convert, and it appears that is how it is wired, and it works fine....but, will I burn the switch eventually like that?

Thanks,
Matt

Project 145 coming along. Running strong, shifting well. Sorting details now... more updates to follow...
