1989 240 - smoke/steam coming from air vents - Cracked Heater Core? 200

Hi everybody.

Last winter here in Chicago smoky steam started coming through the air vents when I had the heater on. The smoke would not appear when I turned the temp all the way to cold. I eventually used some coolant leak stopper and it solved them problem for about 6 months. Now the same thing is happening when I put on the heat - Smoke starts coming out of the center vent right away. Could this be just a hose leak somewhere, or is my heater core cracked? I haven't ever really worked on my brick before, so would checking for a leak behind the dash be that difficult? If it is the core, what would that job cost me?

Thanks,

Tom
