244 Amplifier input/output 200

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace the factory stereo in my 87 244 GL in a few weeks. The physical installation and wiring to a harness isn't a problem, but I'm curious about the Volvo amplifier I've been reading about, as it's something I've had no experience with. I have done nothing to the audio system in the car thus far.

General questions about the amp:

* does my car have one?
* does it power all four speakers, or just the rears?
* will running a higher power (22 watts rms x 4) stereo into the amp cause any problems?
* what are the output specs of the amp, in case I decide to replace the speakers as well during this whole process?

I'd rather not bypass the amp, if possible, but will do so if I need to.

If anyone has information on the above, or good links regarding the built-in amp, please reply. Suggestions and tips are welcome as well. Thanks in advance!

Eric
