Help! Mystery Radio 200

My stock 89 240 DL radio, I think it is a 712, plays out of one speaker, then the other, once in a blue moon out of both. It will change speakers as you drive. Also, in the dark I turn it on with out headlights on and the LED display works great, turn on the lights and the LED display goes off. Guy at work sez it needs to be grounded.

Is this baby shot? Or is there hope? Anybody know???
