Hello good people,
A good Xmas present would be to sort out the trouble I'm having at the moment. FOr information it's a 1967 122S with a B20, twin SUs, standard ignition, carbs a bit worn.
The car lives on the street and my area's a bit damp. So in the morning I start with the choke pulled out, but it takes 3 or 4 goes to get the car started, i.e. it fires up but then dies at least twice before chugging happily.
The next symptom is pulling away. If I just lift off the clutch and press gently on the accelerator Ijust hear the revs die and it goes to stall, so I have to ease up the clutch very carefully for the first few minutes. The last symptom is when the engine is warm and I put the choke in. After that I get very bad pulling, especially up hills, where I press the gas and not a lot happens. Yesterday I came round a corner, pressed the gas, and just got a gurgling sound with no pull at all (nearly flooded the engine).
If you could give me the top few places to check I would be so grateful - maybe the mixture isn't rich enough, or perhaps to avoid this I really need to recondition the carbs? And the ignition culprits? Would that be the points more than the spark-plugs?
