wiring 200

have a 1982 240 that I just changed the head gasket on. When I put it back together, it runs very poorly. I know I need a new harness, but are there any other likely culprits to my problem? I moved the timing belt a notch and started it and it ran better, but it will still not idle and will backfire if you try to accelerate too quickly. I haven't been able to drive it because I don't want to damage something by pushing my luck.

I am also considering a V8 swap, will I need the new harness if I do the swap? Or will I have to buy a different kind of harness?

Does anyone have a harness they can sell?
