700 vs 900 series 900

The 940 series had a few upgrades from the 700 series, like the AW71 transmission (at least 93- it was supposed to be standard, no more 70) and interior refinements. And the body, of course.

Wagons were much the same.

It isn't an apples/apples comparison since they were made (mostly) in different years. The 91-92 models were virtually the same as the 700, save for sheet metal. Wagons were practically identical. Interiors were the only thing that was different.

The 940 was a great car and chugged on until 1997 in some markets. Still, if you bought a 92 740, the primary difference would be the sheet metal on the sedan... and very very little difference on the wagon. But comparing a 90 or older 740 to a 940 is different (although not THAT much different). Basically teh 940 was another evolutionary step with certain things.
