wacky speedometer 120-130

howdy

My speedometer has become wildly erratic - when I first to drive in the morning, the speedometer reading jumps crazily from 0 to 100+ MPH. It seems to be worse when it is cold, this morning it was 18 degress F. After driving for 20 minutes, when everything is warmed up, it seems to settle down a bit - but it was still jumping around, just not as much. Not sure if it would have completely settled down had I continued to drive.

2 months ago I put in a new (longer) speedometer cable to accomodate the OD that came with the new engine, but everything worked fine then.
Only since the weather has started getting cold, has the speedometer been acting up.

The odometer works fine - the mileage recorded for my morning commute was excalty the same as when the speedometer was acting normal.

Any thought on what might be causeing it &/or things I might be able to do to remedy?

thanks

ho ho ho
