noise from rear axle 200

Hello everybody

I have a question concerning the rear axle of my 1989 245 5 speed manual without slip diff. There is somekind of a clunking noise ( slightly different from the clunk if the bushings are worn) arising from the rear axle everytime when the reverse driving ends. Now when you drive backwards depresing the clutch and the brake pedal to slow down, this clunking noise appears. It souns like a twice bump on a piece of metal. There is also no matter if the car is hot or cold. I had no repairs on the back axle which could probably cause that noise except from the mounting of a new rear brake caliper on the passenger side.

Any advice would be appreciated.

By the way -- thanks for the previous answers to my postings and have some happy holidays!!!!!

Lots of greetings -- M.P.
