My car is in fantasitc shape... I have had an intermittent problem since the past summer...
In the summer time, usually at a hot restart, the motor would need to crank over 10-12 times as opposed to 3-5 as normal... It would then start, and always run great, no idle problems, no running problems, nothing... 3 times last summer I had difficultly starting it in the morning (hot & very humid) to the point where I went back in my house and tried again 30 minutes later...
In the summer I replaced the following:
Fuse and holder for f.injection (behind battery)
Fuel pump relay
Cleaned all fuse and socket contact on fuse panel
None of these fixes appeared to make any significant difference.
Now in the winter (montreal, canada) the car always started up perfectly in the morning, no matter how cold, and as usual always runs perfectly. Hot restarts have persisted to be an issue, needing motor cranking over around a dozen times or so.
Note that as in the summer time, I think that I can here the fuel pump relay not 'clicking' until the car starts...
I ordered a new RPM sensor (crank position) from ebay, swedish auto parts, and replaced it yesterday myself. Tough job, but done. The car started up nicely right away. Later that night I attempted a warm restart, and the engine again needed to crank over around 10 times to start up. I was upset, but that was only one test... When I left my house this morning, the engine again needed to crank over around 10 times to start. Now I am really upset because the car always started up great in the morning.
WHAT IS WRONG?
Is there a chance I did not insert the crank position sensor correctly? It was a bit tight, but I got it seated all the way down and bolted it down... I think it is fine. Could there be a faulty wiring contact to the crank sensor? Anything else I have not considered?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Greg Mustang
