Dashpots Oil 120-130

We all know that the SU carbs need oil added to the dashpots fairly often, but recently I found on an English web site a recommendation that one not put automatic transmission fluid (ATF) in the dashpots rather than oil.

The logic is that oil works OK when the weather and the engine is warm, but in cold weather, oil does not function in the dashpots very well until the engine is warm. On the other hand ATF does not thicken when it is cold.

Agree? Thanks for your advice.

Jerry
