Hot and Cold..., Temp sensor? 700 1987

Hey all you Bricksters!

I was wondering who knows about Automatic Climate Control. I have a 1987 780 with the Slider type ACC. The slider broke so I got another unit. After I installed it it only blew very cold air. I took it out and checked the connections. everything was okay. I put it back and it blew warm, then switched to very cold. I started messing with the connections and trying different combinations.

On the unit there is a metal oval with white wires coming out of it. One wire is connected to another white wire coming from somewhere. Are the white wires the temp. sensors? B/C when I unplugged the white wires from the unit it blew only very hot air. Then once I plugged the white back in it got cold again. I have no control with the termostat, so it's hot all the time! I have to drive with the window down or the sunroof open! Please help with some advice.
