'95 965 Intermittent Tranny Problem 900

My wife said her 960 (100K miles) wouldn't shift into higher gears after driving about a 1/2 mile. She also said that there was a burnt smell. I drove it this morning, but could not reproduce the problem. Checking the 900 FAQ section, it could be dirty transmission fluid or clogged filter. Since new, all service work has been handled by the local Volvo dealer, but in checking all of the receipts I don't see that the tranny fluid has EVER been changed Ouch!! I noticed in the Volvo site that periodic tranmission service was recommended for the 940, but no mention of the 960. Could this be so? I'm going to have the system flushed (re-filled w/synthetic) and filter changed. Any other ideas?
