hello bricksters,
my daughter rear-ended a pt cruiser at the mall yesterday. thankfully no one was injured. 92 244 w/ 82k. mint car. took me 8 months to find the right one. anyway, the front end is pushed in about 10 inches all the way across the front and the drivers side fender and hood are bent up. there doesn't seem to be any motor damage (nothing leaking, it started to move it to the side of the road). the fan shroud pushed back and cracked the timing belt cover, the air filter box is squished and it looks like the air mass meter hose got crimped as well. the radiator is leaning back towards the motor but seems ok. i want to "disect" the front of the car this afternoon to see what i've got and decide whether or not i can attemp a rebuild project to get it back on the road or just take it to the body shop and let them do the work.
here are some of my questions:
are the body parts bolted on or are some welded together?
is it going to be next to impossible to get the car panels straight and have them line up properly even though there appears not to be any frame damage?
the passenger side fender is ok except at the bottom of the turn signal cavity it has been pushed back. do i try to straighten it out?
of course the headlights, grill, hella 500's behind the grill, turn signals,ect.. are all toast.
what do you guys think. like i said the car is in super shape and worth repairing but i'm concerned the insurance company might total it if the repairs are to expensive. any comments are greatly appreciated. after reading the board for about a year i was hoping my first repair would be a clogged flame trap or a bad fuel pump relay! thanks all. eric
