I hate blower motors (help fast?!?!) 200 1986

I'm baffled. I'm replacing the blower motor on my '86 240DL and everything was going fine, even until when I put the blower back in. it spun fine. But when I tried to put the two blowers on, everything went bad. The driver's side scrapes along the housing and I can't figure out how to make the motor sit correctly and centered so as to not make the fan blade rub on the housing. What have I done wrong? the old motor had not rubbed at all--it had just bound up and wouldn't turn inside. So what can I do? Did Siemens just design these things wrong and a bit different from OEM?? I tried adding a washer to one corner, but that just make problems elsewhere. please help..thanks!
