Oil cooler adapter o-ring problem 700

I just installed a new o-ring on the oil cooler adapter on the B230FT which is going in my son's car. The o-rings came from the local Volvo dealer and they don't fit. I can get them to work by using a very sticky grease like compound called Parker Fuel Lube to stick them in the groove while I compress the o-ring. Nothing else will get the o-rings to stick in the groove while you try to compress them. The o-rings should be smaller. Has anyone else had this problem? Could the dealership have sold me o-rings for later turbo Volvos? These o-rings are black, but I thought at one time Volvo was supplying green o-rings made of the same material as the distributor and oil trap o-rings.
