1976 244 DL Status - Thoughts? (long post) 200 1976

I recently posted about a 1976 244 DL that sat for about 10 years in a garage. This past weekend I had a chance to further examine and would like to know if it is still worth pursuing to fix up? I did want to try to start it at this point yet. The details...

145,000 original km - and still with original owner.
Engine oil looks very clean, but when I looked in the oil fill hole, the cam and everything was bone dry and had lots of "dry oil deposits" - would the seals/o-rings dry out? Crank ventilation hose that goes to the air box was very oily at the engine perhaps evidence of a past problem. Belts are all cracked, and no evidence of timing belt change. No coolant in rad or expansion tank. Intake manifold butterfly is not siezed. I also have reason to believe that fuel stabilizer might have been added about 10 years ago. Engine compartment thoroughly undercoated. Gear shifter shifts without the key in the ignition. New Exhaust installed around 1993 as well as new brakes.

Rusted floor boards were very well repaired around 1993. Thoroughly undercoated - only found some rust bubbles around the windshield - seems easily repairable. Front fenders seems very soft and flexible/easy to bend near the ground(forward of the wheels)- there is no rust. Incredibly there is very little rust anywhere else - all doors free of rust. Was repainted about 15-20 years ago - its peeling in a few spots. Tires are not flat but are getting there. The shocks/strusts have lots of bounce in them. Can't open one rear passenger door - lock mechanism seems seized. All hinges are really in need of lubing.

Interiour looks excellent except for a major crack in the dash and some small rodent remains and lots of dust. Seat belts very difficult to retract but did eventually with some trying. Passenger seat seems very loose - side to side and leans to the centre of the vehicle. It is noticable when viewed through the rear window. Bumper looks excellent condition. All other chrome trim still attached and looking great.

So that's it. The engine looks quite different than my 940. I don't know anything about mechanical fuel injection. Is this year easy to get parts for at a scrap yard? My concern is that at 26 years old, parts will be nearly impossible to obtain. Will parts from newer 240s fit this?

Thanks for your help.

Chris
