B21FT Differences Thru the Years? 200

The intercooler actually appeared on the rare "flathood" 242T special addition in late late '83. Now that intercooled car has the small clutch and flat flywheel of all 81-84 turbos (84 applies to the early 84 non-intercooled ones) aas I found out this last week. In 84 1/2 the 242 and 244 turbos appeared with ICs and the big clutch and stepped flywheel. As for hp, the intercooler and higher boost it allows, explains the increase in power. The '85 owners manual does list a higher compression ratio for the 85 244Ti but most people think that is a typographical error. However, I am a firm believer that the 85 (maybe 84 1/2 cars) are the fastest of the lot equalling a V8 muscle car in power. If you have not driven a properly running 240Ti with a good turbo unit, you will be astonished at the rocket kick they provide at 3000 - 5000 rpms. I have yet to up the boost on the flathood ('83), but so far it does not seem to equal my '85 in its turbo prime.
