Service Engine Light 900 1996

My '96 OBD II equipped 965 has started illuminating the MIL light (Service Engine Soon light) every time it is started when warm.

It illuminates when the key is "on" (as do all the warning lights) and stays illuminated after the starter is disengaged (never goes off during/after crank and start sequence).

It goes out almost exactly 4 minutes after the engine has been running every time.

My understanding was that once illuminated, the light should stay illuminated unless the fault disappears during a number of cycles.

I have an OBD II code reader (INNOVA Equuis 3100) that I need to hook up to read the fault/s storred in the computer, but before I do this I thought I'd ask if anyone has had a "light's on...now it's off" condition, and if so what it was found to be.

Thanks,
Bob
