bypass thermostat on seat heaters? 200 1993

I just fixed (I think) the driver's seat hearter on my 93 245. The problem was the wires that went to the back rest had seperated from the heating element. Placed a bag of ice water on the temperature sensor (it's still pretty warm here in Dallas) and verified continuity at the plaastic connector, so I think the system's working. It also heats up a little bit when the bag of ice water is kept on the temp. sensor, but not very much. So, how much heat should I expect out of the seat heaters? I was thinking about bypassing the temp. sensors, but was wondering if, besides controlling the temp. the seat heaters would turn on, they also regulated the upper temperature?
