Resetting the SERVICE Light 900 1996

I did a Search in the archives RE: Resetting the Service Light.

It seems some models can be reset using the Trip Reset Button, others have a rubber plug somewhere in the cluster, some can be reset using a module under the hood, and some require a Volvo (only) reset tool. This seems to depend on model and year.

Anyone know which method my '96 965 will respond to? My dealer says they will do it free if they do the entire recommended service or fix a fault, but it's $75 otherwise to hook up anything to the car. Of course, I just changed the oil with synthetic about 700 miles ago so I hesitate to pay them to dump new $$ oil and do a $75 oil change with new synthetic just to do a reset.

I own a generic OBD II code scanner, but evidently it will only reset the MIL light.

I went through this crap with my former BMWs, but at least with them one $45 reset tool will do all years and models.

Thanks,
Bob C.
