240 Oil Indicator Light Problem 200 1988

I own a 88 240 Wagon which had been sitting for several months without being run. Finally, when I started using it again, the oil indicator light would come on until the engine heated up. The oil was pretty much like syrup, so I figured that a good oil change would fix the problem but it hasn't. It appears that when the engine heats up, that the problem subsides. Sometimes it goes away completely, other times it comes and goes while I'm driving. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
