Fellow birckers,
A slight chill has sit in over Oslo Norway and this morning I noticed my block heater (electric) plug had fallen out. Had to fire the old girl up in -24deg C without preheat. Needless to say two slightly heavy turns followed by perfect tickover, heavy clutch, brake and gear ect.
However just to make sure the cooling water had not frozen over I opened the bonnet (hood). I noticed brake fluid had dripped from the rubber reservoir seals, just a little (level is still max) and with engine at tickover the top rubber seal of the water pump was leaking. The brake reservoir seals are new org Volvo 4mnds old, the pump is org and will be replaced as soon as the weather lets me. I could see no leaks when I got back with hot engine.
Question: Is it normal for rubber seals like these to leak at extreme cold weather? It is the first time I notice it and there are no signs of continuous leaks (apart from the waterpump drip). Should I spray some silicon spray on the brake reservoir seals to make them a bit softer? I hate to think brake fluid is leaking on my paint!
