Door lock motor 700 1987

I'm fixin' (southern for getting ready) to go and get a door lock motor from the junkyard. I want to test it before I pull it. Do you just put power to the wires and then reverse it to check both directions or do you ground the motor and alternate the two wires. The FAQ's aren't real clear on how the motor gets power.

Also, I should be able to use this with an after-market remote start/keyless entry, shouldn't I? I have to add a motor of some sort and thought if I could I'd go with the factory motor instead of the generic fit.

Thanks
