removing speakers 700 1989

The stock door speakers are actually 5" speakers. Almost nobody makes these anymore, last pair I saw was in Crutchfield and were Polks, but that was 2+ years ago.

6.5" will fit in the front doors, 5.25" in the rear. The big problem is mounting depth of the speakers, especially in the rear doors.

Some aftermarket (high quality) speakers have larger magnets, and these may not clear the stock cutout in the sheet metal on the rear doors. I have a set of 5.25" Infinity Kappa (green cone) that were in my last 91 744 in the front doors (fit with alot of room to spare), tried putting in the rear and they wouldn't fit. I'm probably going to have to trim the opening a bit.

I bought 2 pairs of 6.5" Blaupunkt speaker for my little brother. He has a 95 Saturn. While these aren't the best speaker in the world, they're better than your stock ones and/or most offerings I've seen at chain stores...especially for this price ($9.99/pair!, 2 pair for 30$ with shipping!). Even better, these are shallow speakers and will probably fit the rear doors of the 740. I'll try one and see, but I'm pretty sure it will.
