noisey main pump 200 1983

I have a problem with my '83 240 T car. Just before the holidays the main fuel pump started making this loud,grinding/vibrating noise so I reach under the car to feel the pump and it was really vibrating and making alot of noise. Now it has always been very quite. So with 265K miles on the original pumps I figured it was time to replace them. I got new pumps [main and intank pumps] from ipd. Got them replaced but the main pump is still making the same noise. It really vibrates alot and it sounds like it's grinding itself to death. Has anyone had this problem and what is the cure and what is the cause? I have had other '83 240 T cars and the main pump was cavitating so replacing the pumps solved the problem but this is a new one on me. I hope someone has answers for this for me. Thanks, Jim JMandJD@juno.com
