240 Radio Removal - strange behaviour 200

I've removed the stock (upper-dash) cassette radio from my 1987 240 DL in anticipation of installing a new one tomorrow. I went to run the car on a quick errand this evening, and found that:

1) the power locks now no longer work
2) the car continuously runs the 'door open/headlight on' chime, even if all doors are closed and locked, and the headlights are off.

The only thing I did besides remove the radio was disconnect the battery when I was working on the car. I'm wondering if this resets something?

Is this some sort of security feature on the car? Any help would be great.

TIA,
//eric
