Bloody bolt - why is this? 700

For the second time in my life, I'm replacing the rear shocks on a 745 and for the second time in my life, the damn bolt on rhe right hand side gets stuck. It's not that I can't get the nut of the bolt, I can easily. But then the bolt won't retract. It turns round but it won't budge a single fraction of an inch towards me. Oh, we are talking about the bottom bolt as opposed to the top one.

Why does the bolt do this, and why on this particular side. The left hand side was done in 10 minutes, I had no problems there.
