Continuity tester will help... 200 1985

If You are running new speakers or new locations - I would suggest run all new wires - that way your speakers are in phase - and there is no confusion.

Your stereo may or may not have a power-antenna wire...

Accordong to Haynes Manual - as to what goes where.

1985
color chart:

BL - Blue
BN - Brown
GN - Green
Gr - Grey
OR - orange
P - pink
R - Red
SB - Black
VO - Violet
W - White
Y - Yellow

As best as I can see:

the top fuse (8 amp) has a "Y-SB" (yellow-black) wire supplying 12V power to the radio.
Run a separate ground wire to the metal part of the dash - make sure it is grounded to the car chassis.

If you are using stock speakers:
the speakers:

LF+ BL-W at the radio, plugs into Y-W, plugs into Y-GR at the speaker.
LF- W at the radio, plugs into W, plugs into GR at the speaker.
RF+ BL-W at the radio, plugs into Y-GR, plugs into Y-GR at the speaker.
RF- BL at the radio, plugs into GR, plugs into GR at the speaker.

the simplest way to find the 12 V wire is to use a 12 V continuity tester.

I have a home made cont. tester made from a auto door buzzer. A wire to each side - You may have one that contains a 12V light bulb.

I attach one end to a ground - a screw attacehd to teh metal partof the dash will do. Then with the other end touch each of the "sockets" from the dash side of teh amin wire plug that was connected to the stereo.

When the tester lights up, or in my case it buzzes, you have found the 12 V source.

Note - the Volvo radio is set up to run only when the ignition is turned on to "Accessory." You can verify you have the 12V wire by turning the ignition off and back on again - then you should have the feed wire.

If youa re upgrading to a CD deck or better, You may want to run more than the stock two speakers - Then you would be better to run all new wires - you could use the old ones to pull through the new ones...

Good luck
