Good info, thanks 700 1989

I can't say that I've heard of periodic checking of the suspension hardware. Certainly can't hurt anything, but I've NEVER heard of a case of anything loosening up. Usually they're a bear to break loose... and in general parts last a long time, as with my 88 that got a new ball joint tonight (and is getting a broken swaybar end-link fixed tomorrow! ) and that's 197K miles on what appears to be an original ball joint.
Given the symptoms I had, which was shaking under hard left turns, but none when going straight, you should also make a check of the ball joints while you're inspecting and replacing. A quick push with a pry bar will tell you if they're good or bad.
