Buying a 1981 244 ? 200

I was thinking of purchasing a 1981 244. My first question is whether or not the automatic transmission on this model is reliable. The other question has to do with its engine. Get this ... originally this car was a diesel but several years ago the owner converted it into a 4 cylinder carbureted gas engine. I'm not sure if it a B20A or a B21A yet. Is there anything I should look out for on this type of engine? Are carbureted engines reliable in a cold Canadian climate? Should I worry about the engine conversion? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Greg
