1987 740 GLE engine technical questions

1) What should the fuel pressure be at the injector rail?

2) When the fuel line is disconnected from the injector rail, should the fuel pumps run when the ignition key is turned on or only when the engine is cranking?

3) Is there an electrical voltage test you can do to see if the injectors are being ordered to fire?

4) What device is responsible for giving the injectors the order to fire, and what tells that device when it's time to fire?

Thanks,

Frank Baker in Maryland (USA)
