Importing classics to US 120-130

When I came back from Panama in 1998 I shipped both my 66 122 wagon (through
Charleston SC, under Army orders) and my 69 164 (through Lake Charles,
LA, commercially at $725). No problem with the 122, it got to Charleston
the day before I did and was ready for me. No sweat with customs.
I was not so lucky with customs at Lake Charles. They kept telling me that
EVERY car imported into the US had to have a catalytic converter. Finally
I got in touch with the customs guy at Charleston and got him to call his
counterpart in Lake Charles. Couple days later they called me and said if
I didn't come down and pick up the car in a week they were going to charge
me storage. When I got there some empty matchboxes (Canal Zone Matches)
were missing from the trunk and the AC grill in the center of the dash
was torn out. No apology or anything. Nice guys.
