What kind of Gas do you use? 200

I owned a 1988 Volvo 240 sedan and had always put 87 gas in it. Never pinged or knocked, that baby ran smoothly.

Then my brain malfunctioned and I sold the brick.

Now I have a 1990 240 wagon and the engined pings slightly on hard acceleration. The problem goes away with 91 gas.

Both cars use the same engine, so I suppose the LH 2.4 system with the new knock sensor system can't be fooled with cheap gas.

How about you guys?
Do you think I can get away with 89?
