Electric wire routing in the engine bay 200 1986

Removing the intake manifold turned out to be a bigger pain in the ass than it seemed at first...

There is a big chunk of electric wires, including the ones for the fuel injectors, headlight relays and some for the ignition as well, running between the 3 & 4 pipes in the intake manifold. Is this the way they were supposed to be routed, or has someone been tinkering and made my life more difficult?

To me it would seem like a more practical solution to slip all of those wires around the manifold, not trough it so when trying to take the manifold off you don't have to pull miles of wiring trough it.
