Turbo Noise 200 1983

Was driving along yesterday and all of a sudden a loud high pitched sound starting coming from the turbocharger. I am pretty sure that is where it is coming from because it follows the turbo boost. My question is this. Is it time for a new turbocharger? The car still runs ok and has the same amount of boost, no performance problems. I did a good look over and found the wastegate hose bad along with the blue flex lines. Replaced them but it didn't make a differance. The one in the car is water cooled so I am assuming it has been replaced. Is the core the way to go? Does everything have to come out to replace the core or can it be done in the car? Thanks for any help
