Oil leaks past oil filler cap 200 1990

My '90 240 has begun to leak oil past the oil filler cap. I assume this is due to excessive crankcase pressure so I cleaned the flame trap and hoses and all are clear. The problem persists. I do not have other symptoms of high crankcase pressure such as the dip stick popping up. I understand the next step is to remove and clean out the oil separator box which I can barely see, let alone touch. Can someone tell me how to get this thing off? Is it best removed from under the car? Any other suggestion would be appreciated. Thank You.
Alan
