Batt. light on dash always on; suggestions? 200 1985

Hi again. Well I have a new problem with my '85 Turbo, now the battery light on the dash is always on dimmly. It fluxuates some as to how much it's 'on' and I can't tell why, it's not related to engine speed really, or to what's on. My batt. gauge is normal and show's that there's output from the alternator (that's what that shows, right?) and the car otherwise seems to be running fine and clod starts fine (for once). I tried a different battery and it does the same thing, so it's not the batt. and it's the only dash light on. Anyone have ideas as to what could be causing this problem? I'm very confused.
TIA
