Infamous OD solenoid

>> 4. If the tranny is the problem would it be wiser to have my mechanic put in a used one instead of paying a tranny shop $$1,500 to repair? <<

If the solenoid works, which means it clicks AND allows ATF to flow when energized (test by blowing air thru it), then the problem is internal. Rebuilding the tranny is Plan C or D, unless your income comes off a tree out back. Next step for me would be a tranny screen cleaning and flush and fluid replacement. These are DIY things, check the FAQ's and Archives.

If that doesn't do the trick, there are some valve parts in the O/D unit that can be re-done. It's not been something I've needed - yet. Again, check the FAQ's and A's.

Lastly, most BB'ers who have needed a trans have had decent results with a used one. Plus, the O/D may be replaceable separate from the trans. Dunno 4 sure.

Good Luck,

Bob
