ECU replacement: 556 to 933 700 1990

I replaced a 556 ECU with a used 933 due to failure of the original 556 in our 1990 740 wagon. The car just died while driving. It now drives fine with the 933, but misses noticeably when idling. I was just told by the friend who supplied the 933 that he learned that it might require upgrading the ignition computer as well, when upgrading the ECU from 556 to 933, and was checking into it. Would anyone on Brickboard know whether this is the case. Regards.
