AMM in 1991 940 900

Been having what seems to be intermittent AMM problems for the past 6 months, and due to cost I haven't gotten a replacement since I'm not sure it's the problem. It sure seems like the problem I've had with 240's, where you really throttle down, and can't accelerate, and you end up with the "limp home" mode. My problem with my 940 is I get into that throttle down, but it's goes back to normal most of the time, or causes a stall that restarts after 2-3 cranks. Sometimes I would disconnect the harness on the AMM & reconnect and it would start. I remember reading here that to test for a bad AMM you disconnect it and start the car, and it should idle but stall if you step on the gas. Well, tonight the car stalled & wouldn't start, so I disconnected the AMM and and the car started, but the weird part is I drove home with the AMM disconnected, and it even idled better!! How did this happen? It's only in the 20's out, does tempature play a big part? I would appriciate any help with this since I'm now really confused. Help!!

TIA, Bob
