Thinking of buying a '86 245dl... 200

I'm new to the world of Volvo's.I currently have a '89 Toyota MR-2 with 153,000 miles on and have had not a single problem with it.But, I need a bigger car.There is a '86 245dl for sale nearby for $995.Manual trans. with 129k miles on it.New paint,tires,exhaust,and battery.

Can someone give me some more info as to what to look out for when looking at it and test driving it?I've read some info as to what to look for but not alot.
I'm only concerned about the mechanical/electrical aspects, not really concerened about the body/interior.
