87 230k EGR and heater 700

hi all
tim has nentioned rmoving his egr system i must admit it looks a mess
on mine one or two bodge ups on the pipework an accident waiting to happen, what sort of a job is it?can it be done with the head on, i'm a reasonable mechanic,


ps still havent got round to sorting the heater out would someone with a good heater please confirm that the temp guage should read half scale or more or less vertical
