Power window repair? 700

Hi all, I've got an 89 740 turbo, with power windows that have been operating ok. HOwever, the driver side rear window has been perpetually lowered by about 1 inch. When I try to raise the window, the motor turns but the window only bucks in place.

It turns out that my gear large white connected to two brackets that move the window up and down was broken. I purchased another gear from the junkyard, but cannot seem to wrestle the new gear set back in. Seems as if some of the bolt holes don't match even though they're numbers are teh same and I do count the same numbers of bolts on both units in places where they havne't broken off. Are there any tips to reinstalling the power window gear? Should I try and have the motor rotate the gear into a full up position? Also, the window is currently jammed up in a closed position with a screw driver.

Thanks
